Open house brings everyone at Lanark Heights together, plus helps local community
‘Whole home collaboration’ makes event successful

Lanark Heights’ annual Christmas open house on Dec. 6 was not only successful at bringing residents, families and staff members together in celebration, it also proved to be an opportunity to galvanize teamwork and help others during the holiday season.
“The open house was a huge success and we had a great time hosting it. It was a great opportunity for our family members to meet our management team and to bring in the holiday season with the residents and show them our appreciation for them,” life enrichment manager Nathan McFadyen tells S&R Today.
The Kitchener long-term care home also made sure the event tied in with the Steeves & Rozema Group’s mission of “creating communities that are good for life.”
The open house included a fundraiser for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. In total, 125 pounds of food was brought in to support the charity, which sends food donations to families in need.
The open house also included in-house entertainment, and the home’s Red Seal chefs made all the food and catered the party.
And there was a large turnout, Nathan says.
“We had 70-plus residents out of 160 attend the event. We also had numerous family members attend the function as well,” he says.
Nathan says outstanding teamwork made the event possible, noting that all departments came together to make the open house successful.
For instance, housekeeping staff made sure the dining rooms were clean. Personal support workers helped with feeding. Life enrichment team members helped porter residents. The management team put a lot of time into organizing the event.
“It was a whole home collaboration,” he says.
