Afton Park Place didn't just provide a special meal to the Sarnia long-term care community's residents during the Thanksgiving weekend; the team also organized a “turkey hunt” in honour of the occasion.
Residents from Afton Park's Maddison neighbourhood enjoyed what life enrichment manager Candice Vrskovy describes as a “festive turkey hunt,” using a Nerf gun to take aim at paper cups decorated as turkeys.
With their sights set on the paper targets, residents got to test their aim and enjoy a little friendly competition, all without having to chase any real turkeys around.
To maximize participation, life enrichment team member Emily brought the activity to residents' rooms and hallways, ensuring everyone had a chance to join in on the Thanksgiving fun, Candice adds.
“The activity brought plenty of smiles, laughter and excitement as residents tested their aim and enjoyed some holiday-themed target practice – all from the comfort of their room,” Candice tells S&R Today.
“The only downside? These turkeys weren't going to make it onto anyone's dinner plate.”
On upside, there were no feathers to pluck, she jokes.
Candice says the Thanksgiving Nerf-gun turkey hunt “was a wonderful way” for residents and team members to celebrate the Thanksgiving weekend together and create special memories.
The activity also offered a chance to share a few laughs and enjoy the spirit of the holiday in a different way. It was a reminder to everyone, Candice adds, that a little fun can go a long way.
“Sometimes, the best holiday adventures are the ones that come right to your door,” she says.
