A wide variety of food, lively music and colourful decorations marked Multicultural Day at Heron Terrace, an event that brought residents, their families, volunteers and team members together to honour and celebrate the diversity that makes the Windsor long-term care community a special place to live and work.
For the fourth consecutive year, Heron Terrace celebrated Multicultural Day, and the event continues to be a big hit with those attending.
“I really enjoyed seeing all the different cultures and performances,” Maxine, a Heron Terrace resident, tells S&R Today. “It was such a happy day.”
Anna, a volunteer, says Multicultural Day helps make the strong sense of community at Heron Terrace even stronger.
“The event brought everyone together to celebrate diversity, learn from one another, and strengthen the sense of community at Heron Terrace,” she says.
During the event, flags of the many countries representing the backgrounds of residents and team members were on display. The aroma of many international cuisines wafted through the home while the sounds of traditional music filled the air, “bringing back cherished memories of home for many,” says Sheila Dela Pena-Romero, Heron Terrace's life enrichment manager.
“Staff proudly wore cultural attire, adding to the festive atmosphere,” she adds.
One of the highlights of Multicultural Day was a fashion show that included a photo shoot. Attendees were encouraged to wear traditional clothing from their country, which received smiles and applause from residents, Sheila says.
The celebration continued with lively cultural dance performances by staff and volunteers, filling the room with energy and joy.
Sheila is extending her appreciation to her colleagues, volunteers and families who helped make this year's Multicultural Day so successful.
“It was another wonderful reminder that, although we come from different backgrounds, we are one Heron Terrace family,” she says.
