Westmount Gardens recently hosted its annual car show, a flagship summer event that sees car enthusiasts from across the region bring their classic cars and hot rods to the London, Ont. long-term care community.
This year's event proved to be the biggest yet, says Adnan Resh, Westmount Gardens' life enrichment manager.
“We had a record 38 cars show up, one even having to end up parking on the road because we had run out of space, and the 38 cars isn't counting that car,” Adnan tells S&R Today.
“Last year's (car show) was very successful, but this one topped it even more so.”
The July 6 event started at 5 p.m., but cars began rolling into the parking area by 4 p.m. Before long, the front parking lot was filled with vehicles, Adnan says.
In addition to the large turnout of residents and team members, the event drew many family members, Adnan says. As always, the car show included a barbecue, and many guests stayed for the full two-hour event and shared a meal with their loved ones.
Adding to the car show's festive atmosphere was live music from local musician Jim Chapman, who performed throughout the event. Jim also welcomed two special guests, a young girl and her mother from Ukraine, and the girl wowed the crowd with her singing, Adnan says.
“Jim is an amazing gentleman who is also very well known in the car community so he stayed well after 7 p.m.,” he adds.
But the car show's greatest success was how much residents, guests and those who brought their cars to the event enjoyed themselves, Adnan says.
For the car enthusiasts, putting their vehicles on display and sharing their love of cars with others is something they deeply enjoy, he adds.
“The car community sees each other as one big family, and (they) just love coming out to the homes and putting smiles onto the residents' faces,” Adnan says.
Adnan also credits the Westmount Gardens team for helping organize this year's car show, especially Li, Cheryl, Ally, Erica, Noona, Steph and Emily.
“My staff did an amazing job, and I can't thank them enough,” Adnan says. “They once again made this such a successful event.”
