Beloved longtime Rosewood Village nurse retires
'I just loved working here,' Deb Schram says

After nearly 17 years serving Rosewood Village residents, RPN Deb Schram, pictured above, recently retired.

One memory that stands out for Deb Schram during her nearly 17 years as a registered practical nurse (RPN) at Rosewood Village was comforting a resident whose husband had just passed away.
The experience was sad and frightening for the resident, but by spending time with her, Deb was able to provide much-needed comfort.
“I still think of that,” Deb says. “I would go sit with her, hold her and comfort her.”
This was just one of many memories Deb has of making a difference in the lives of residents at the Sarnia seniors living community, and being there for people in need is one of the things she says she will miss most.
Deb recently retired, and her colleagues hosted a celebration in her honour to recognize her dedication to the residents and team at Rosewood Village, where she began working in August 2009.
Asked what her favourite part of her job at Rosewood Village was, Deb says: “Helping the residents, listening to the residents, whether it's about family or a problem they were having, (and) making them smile.”
She adds: “Having time for the residents was wonderful, whether it was to hold their hand or really just whatever they needed.”
Deb says Rosewood Village's residents and team members are her “second family,” and she will miss seeing everyone.
“I just loved working here,” she says.
Deb, who says she always knew she wanted to be a nurse, plans to stay active as she enters the next chapter of her life. Spending more time gardening and boating are among her retirement plans.
Alex Doornbosch, Rosewood Village's fun co-ordinator, says everyone at the Village is sad to see Deb go, but they are also wishing her the best in retirement.
“Rosewood Village is very sad to lose such a great nurse, employee and person,” Alex says. “However, we are very excited for Deb to start her retirement.”
