Twin Lakes Village hosted an early Mother's Day tea and even had a special guest provide the event's musical entertainment.
While Mother's Day was May 10, the Sarnia seniors living community opted to start celebrating the mothers residing at the Village on May 6, says fun co-ordinator Kerry Andriash.
The afternoon event featured refreshments and musical entertainment from Laurie Bustard.
“What made the event so special was not only the treats, but our musical entertainer, Laurie Bustard, is the daughter of one of the residents, Fran,” Kerry says.
Fran tells S&R Today that seeing her daughter on stage performing for residents made the event extra special for her.
“I was happy I could come down to see my daughter play her guitar and sing,” Fran says. “She is very good and I am very proud of her.”
At the event, team members provided those attending with a spread of food accompanied by china cups and saucers.
Kerry notes there was a wide array of baked goods prepared for the Mother's Day tea, including cherry chip cupcakes, sugar-free cookies and sugar-free pecan cake, along with lots of tea.
Asked what residents enjoyed most about the event, Kerry says socializing and spending time together were the top highlights.
“(It was) sharing stories of their motherhood with each other and (enjoying) the thoughtful afternoon put together for them,” Kerry says.
Mother's Day is an important event every year at S&R Group seniors living and long-term care communities, with team members organizing teas, dinners and other events to celebrate the mothers living in their communities.
