Buying Smile Cookies from Tim Hortons is an annual tradition for many Canadians every spring, but with prices rising on nearly everything, Rosewood Village team members decided to make their own smiley-faced treats for residents this year.

To celebrate Smile Cookie Week (April 27 to May 3) and welcome the month of May, the Sarnia seniors living community's kitchen team baked cookies from scratch that were then decorated with smiley faces by Alex Doornbosch, the Village's fun co-ordinator.

Alex, it turns out, was the perfect person for the job.

“I used to work at Tim Hortons, and I frosted the Smile Cookies there during Smile Cookie Week in the past,” she tells S&R Today. “It was fun to do it again.”

Traditionally, Tim Hortons decorates its Smile Cookies with pink and blue icing, so Alex chose purple and green icing for a different look.

The biggest success, Alex adds, was that the residents enjoyed the cookies at the party where the treats were served.

“I found all of the residents enjoyed the originality of the idea, and they thought the cookies were great,” she says.

“The homemade Smile Cookies did exactly what we were hoping, and brought smiles and good energy to the entertainment. It was a really fun party.”
