The Lanark Village activity department will increasingly focus on creating programs that bring residents and team members together in 2026, Lisa Rathier says.
Lisa, the Kitchener seniors living community's fun co-ordinator, says Lanark Village is “a fun and fulfilling place” to live and work, and it's also a place where everyone can share their knowledge and have fun – a concept she is promoting at the Village.
“I am encouraging all of our staff to become involved in the fun aspects of seniors living,” Lisa tells S&R Today.
When residents and team members participate in programming together, it strengthens unity across the Village, she adds.
“You get an entirely different relationship with the residents and learn some amazing things when you take a few minutes to, for example, put in a puzzle piece, dance at Zumba or spend a few moments chatting,” she says.
The result, Lisa says, is a positive impact that spreads to everyone.
“You can see the joy on everyone's face when they get to experience something they love,” she says. “Whether that is a new thing or something they have loved doing in the past, it creates a positive atmosphere.”
Lisa adds that Lanark Village residents “love” to share their strengths and knowledge with others, which can include teaching new things to each other and to staff members, something else she says she encourages.
But most of all, Lisa underscores the importance of residents driving programming at Lanark Village, with team members working to ensure resident-requested activities are put on the calendar.
“My 2026 outlook is to 'give them what they want,' ” Lisa says. “Any and all suggestions that I can make happen will happen.”
