Westmount Gardens residents recently had a unique visitor stop by the London, Ont., long-term care community to say hello.
Scorzy, the green-and-gold knight who is the mascot of OHL team the London Knights, spent an hour at Westmount entertaining residents and staying in character the entire time, moving around “full of energy and joy” but not saying a word, explains Adnan Resh, the home's life enrichment manager.
“What a great, great mascot; he was just simply amazing in every aspect with the residents, families and staff,” Adnan tells S&R Today.
Having Scorzy – who is well known amongst sports fans in the city – at Westmount Gardens and only a few feet away provided a different perspective for residents, Adnan says.
“We have all seen him at games running around doing his thing full of energy and hyping everyone up for the Knights game, but none of us have seen him like this, up close and personal for an hour,” he says.
“We have residents, families and staff who are huge fans of the London Knights, so all who attended loved every bit of Scorzy's visit here.”
There were smiles, laughter, clapping, singing, handshakes, hugs and chants of “go Knights go” throughout Westmount Gardens that day, Adnan adds.
“Scorzy himself loved his visit and said he would love to come back, so I will be getting him in again in the springtime,” Adnan says. “The residents loved seeing him, and some wanted to stay back to see what he looked like without the mascot costume.”
