This program remains a favourite nine months after launch

Nothing brings people together quite like good food, and with this in mind, Landmark Village created the Lunch Out program nine months ago. It has continued to be a favourite with residents of the Sarnia seniors living community.

Brent Hart, the Village's activity manager, says the program began when a resident told him, “it's always nice to go out for lunch.”

The first outing in March was to the Fort Rose Maple Company in Parkhill, about 75 kilometres east of Sarnia. The inaugural Lunch Out trip was a hit with residents, and the program has snowballed since, Brent says.

Since the outings have been so well received, Lunch Out has appeared on the activity calendar a couple of times each month in recent months, he adds.

“It's a great opportunity to go for a little drive and enjoy a meal away from the home,” Brent tells S&R Today.

Brent asks residents where they would like to dine, and their selections drive the program. At the end of every meal, residents and team members wrap up with a discussion about where to go next time.

In summer, residents often chose restaurants with patios so they could enjoy their meals outdoors. One favourite outing was to Skeeter Barlow's in Brights Grove, where the highlight was a butterfly landing on one resident's meal and staying throughout, Brent says.

Another Lunch Out trip was to a local golf course.

“One resident who was a member for many years at Huron Oaks was delighted to go there for lunch and brought back so many wonderful memories,” Brent says.
