A new lunch program developed at Lanark Village is not only bringing delicious meals to residents, they're also encouraged to help prepare them.

Led by Chef Mark, residents of the Kitchener seniors living community can show up before lunchtime on the days the program is held so they can start cooking.

Mark will plan the menu and have all the components for the meal ready when the residents arrive so they can cook along with him. Some of the meals residents and Mark have created together include tacos, crepes and pasta.

For the tacos, residents made from-scratch tortillas. The batter for the crepes was also made by residents.

The idea behind the program is for residents and team members to spend time together and share a mutual love of cooking, their culinary skills and their stories, the Village's team members say.

“We have a talented staff at Lanark Village, and it's great to have opportunities for them to share their passions with the residents,” says Adrian Maputi, Lanark Village's executive director.

“This program has become a favourite program on the calendar.”

Team members say the program has succeeded in its mission.

“I enjoy hearing residents' stories as we cook up a lunch together,” Mark says.

Culinary programs have always been well-loved at Lanark Village, says fun co-ordinator Lisa Rathier, adding that the program is the “perfect way” for residents to engage their passion for cooking while sharing memorable stories and experiences.

“No one leaves a culinary program without a smile on their face,” she says.
