Rosewood Village hosts indoor picnic for residents

Food, fun and even 'ants' make the event a huge hit

To ensure every resident could enjoy Rosewood Village's Senior Citizens Day celebration, the Sarnia seniors living community organized an indoor picnic for those receiving enriched care.

The residents dressed for the occasion in their favourite sunhats and other picnic attire, which proved to be lots of fun for them, says Susan Maw, the Village's executive director.

At the picnic, team members served hamburgers and hot dogs straight from the barbecue, with an array of side dishes, including corn on the cob and potato salad. For dessert, residents were treated to vanilla ice cream crepes.

Ironically, one of the things the residents liked best about the picnic, Susan says, was the one thing everyone dreads at a picnic – ants.

But these weren't ordinary ants: special decorative ones helped themselves to lemon gumdrops placed on each table for residents to enjoy.

“You can't have a picnic without ants,” Susan says.

The added touch of placing the lemon gumdrops on the ants was amusing to everyone, she adds.

“The ants were a great conversation piece,” Susan says.

Susan says residents enjoyed the indoor picnic, the food and all the socializing that came with the event.

“The day was a huge success,” she says.
