Carnivals are one of those events most people remember with fondness from their childhood, and with this in mind, the Village on the Thames decided to create a midway with games and snacks to engage residents and prospective residents.
The Sept. 18 event was one of the Chatham-Kent seniors living community's monthly “senior socials,” which are designed to create fun, lively activities for residents and introduce prospective residents to Village life.
To make the event as authentic as possible, the Village on the Thames rented candy-floss and popcorn machines so residents and their new friends could enjoy snacks that are long-time carnival favourites.
Diamond Zelina, the Village on the Thames' fun co-ordinator, says the event drew a favourable turnout from inside and outside the Village.
“There was a good group of eight to 10 people who came and did a tour,” Diamond tells S&R Today. “Afterward, they enjoyed cotton candy and popcorn.”
To complement the carnival food, there was music, and the Village's team members set up a variety of games for residents and guests to play. These included darts and a duck shoot, which proved to be the favourites.
“Everyone had a great time,” Diamond says.
The S&R Group's seniors living communities have started hosting “senior socials” each month. These engaging events introduce prospective residents to life in S&R Villages and introduce people to S&R's culture.
Some of the other activities and events S&R Villages have hosted include a pig roast, a painting class and a dunk-tank fundraiser. Villages will continue these fun events monthly.
