Watercolour class and music brings community together

The September “senior social” at Twin Lakes Village tapped into attendees' creativity, sending everyone home with a handmade piece of art.

The Sarnia seniors living community invited The Art House on London, a local studio offering art classes whose mission is “to inspire and nurture artistic talent in a welcoming environment,” to lead the watercolour painting workshop.

Residents painted with the primary colours, red, yellow and blue, learning to blend them and create any colour they wanted while trying to recreate the fruit and vegetables placed in front of them for inspiration, explains fun co-ordinator Gina McNally.

Following the painting workshop, there was musical entertainment courtesy of the Newtimers Band.

Gina says everyone went “from a relaxing start to the afternoon with painting to dancing to 'the twist' and getting on our feet moving and grooving.”

The S&R Group's seniors living communities have started hosting “senior socials” each month. These fun, engaging events introduce prospective residents to life in S&R Villages.

Twin Lakes Village held its first senior social in August with a bouquet-making event (see Sept. 8 S&R Today story).

The senior social for October will again feature a wreath-making class, followed by music entertainment, with some fall-inspired snacks and drinks, Gina says.
