S&R Group draws strong turnout at Lambton College job fair
More than 40 prospective PSWs visit booth to explore career opportunities

More than 40 people stopped by the S&R Group's booth at a recent job fair at Lambton College, eager to explore personal support worker (PSW) opportunities.
S&R Group representatives attending the fair, which was hosted by Lambton College Community Employment Services, say the strong turnout was an encouraging sign that people are eager to work in the organization's long-term care and seniors living communities.
“Sometimes at a job fair, we might only see five to seven PSWs (stop by), but this time we had over 40 PSWs attend our booth alone,” Mahyar Garmsiri, the S&R Group's HR talent acquisition specialist, tells S&R Today.
Mahyar adds that hosting the event in summer proved to be “really smart timing,” since many new PSW graduates were looking for career opportunities.
The Aug. 20 job fair gave candidates a chance to learn more about available roles and to connect directly with the S&R Group and other organizations attending.
Abby Saji, a resident care aide at Rosewood Village, joined Mahyar at the booth, offering insights from her day-to-day work that gave candidates a sense of life in S&R homes.
“She was able to bring the direct service role perspective to our candidates, to give them a real look at what it's like to work in our homes,” Mahyar says.
“I think one of the real highlights of working with seniors is the intimate relationship you establish with someone you are caring for, and Abby was able to paint that picture for the interested applicants visiting our booth.”
Mahyar says the event was “a really successful day” for the S&R Group and the job fair.
“Lambton College Community Employment Services did a great job laying out the event and advertising it,” he says. “We had a great time meeting all the job seekers and also connecting with our fellow employers in the community who attended the job fair with us.”
