Westmount Gardens resident Marguerite Sivak is using her passion for crocheting to keep the patients at Children's Hospital in London, Ont. warm.

Marguerite has been busy making and donating handmade sweaters and hats stitched with care and kindness for the children and infants accessing the hospital's services.

“She has put a lot of effort and lots of love in making these sweaters and hats for the children,” Adnan Resh, Westmount Gardens' life enrichment manager, tells S&R Today. “They are beautifully made.”

Adnan says Marguerite enjoys crocheting so much that she doesn't even realize how many items she's making sometimes. Recently, Adnan says she gave him a bag of crocheted items to donate to the hospital, but when he looked inside, he counted 18.

“This just shows me it's second nature to Marguerite, and she just loves doing what she does,” he says. “She cares a lot about other people and always wants to spread love and cheer.”

Once Marguerite started completing crocheted items, Adnan contacted Children's Hospital and offered to donate them on behalf of Marguerite. Hospital staff were overjoyed, Adnan says.

The hospital is always looking for donations, he adds, and Marguerite's generosity is helping because not every family has an extra sweater or hat for their child.

“(The hospital was) very happy and in awe of what was being donated, and something as little as that goes a very long way,” he says. “I am sure that there will be more made to donate in the future, so this is just a start and I will be happy to continue helping Marguerite get them to the right location.”

Adnan says that Marguerite is rightfully proud of the service she's providing to local children and their families. Recently, London Mayor Josh Morgan was at Westmount Gardens for a meet-and-greet presentation, and Marguerite made a point of showing him one of the sweaters she would be donating.

“She was so happy to share the news that she is donating sweaters and hats to the Children's Hospital,” Adnan says.
