A long-standing summer tradition returned to Twin Lakes Village on June 24 when the Sarnia seniors living community hosted its annual strawberry social.

Every year, team members collaborate to host this flagship summertime event, which is always a lot of fun for residents and staff.

One of the greatest benefits of the event is that it serves as an engagement tool for residents, families and team members, says Twin Lakes Village fun co-ordinator Gina McNally.

Ahead of this year's strawberry social, invites were put out to people on the waiting list to move into Twin Lakes to give them a taste of what the Village has to offer, Gina notes.

Local musician Joan Spalding provided entertainment at the event which was well attended.

Strawberry socials are an important part of the culture at the S&R Group's senior living and long-term care communities every late spring and summer. For many residents, this annual tradition brings back fond memories of summer and enjoying desserts made with strawberries.

All the fresh strawberries for the event were purchased from a local vendor, Sarnia Produce. During the week before the strawberry social, everyone worked together to bake strawberry Jell-O poke cupcakes that were served at the social, Gina adds.

There was even a strawberry drink to keep everyone cool in the sun.

“We enjoyed cold refreshing strawberry punch on the hot afternoon,” Gina says.
