Lanark Heights was recently filled with the sights and sounds of the Wild West.
In early June, residents of the Kitchener long-term care community – many of whom are country music fans – asked the life enrichment team if they could have a Wild West-themed party, and team members fulfilled their wish, explains life enrichment manager Karla Verdesoto.
Karla and food services manager Gauri Bassi got to work organizing the party, which included entertainment from The Dynamic Duo, a local musical pair, and a special “cowboy bar” that served partygoers root beer and fresh onion rings was set up.
Residents, their family members and team members who attended the party also dressed up in cowboy hats, checkered shirts and other Western clothing and apparel to celebrate the event.
“Residents and family members were welcome, and they had a blast as they sang together many times,” Karla tells S&R Today.
There were also many team members on hand who got into the spirit of the event, she adds.
Karla says the Lanark Heights team always tries to encourage residents and staff members to embrace these special dress-up days. When everyone is involved, she says, the atmosphere creates a sense of unity among everyone.
And, of course, there are great opportunities for photos to keep the memories alive at these events, she adds.
“When we do that, we meet a few minutes before the event and take a group picture,” she says.
