Waterloo Heights residents and team members are on a mission in 2025 to raise as much money as they can for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region and their latest endeavour has netted $2,620 for the charity.

The Waterloo, Ont. seniors living community recently hosted its 24th annual fashion show to raise money for the food bank, and it was an opportunity to not only help a community organization but also have lots of fun, says Waterloo Heights activity director Jacqui Metzloff.

In addition to the money raised, residents, team members and fashion show guests donated food to the charity. At the time of this writing, Waterloo Heights has donated 5,494 meals to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

During the fashion show, residents and team members strutted down the catwalk dressed in the latest clothing from top designers. Fashions for this year's show were provided by Laura, Lizzy R Fashions and Just For Him, all local businesses.

“Our residents and staff modelled the outfits and rocked the runway to music and professional lighting provided by our driver, Jake, who also happens to be a deejay,” Jacqui tells S&R Today.

“The fashion show was a huge hit again this year, with approximately 200 guests. Ticket sales were open to members of the community, and we saw lots of familiar faces and new ones.”

Each of the 18 models had two to three outfits to wear. They attended fittings at the stores beforehand to make sure their outfits fit and were something they would enjoy wearing, which, Jacqui says, “was very easy, given the amazing fashions the stores had.”

Waterloo Heights residents elect a charity every year to raise money for throughout the following 12 months. In 2024, residents chose the Lisaard & Innisfree Hospice as their beneficiary. Throughout the year, residents raised $4,710 for the hospice by hosting a variety of fundraising events.

For 2025, residents elected to support the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

All fashion show attendees received goodie bags on their chairs, and many were also given roses by the models as they walked down the runway.

Makeup was professionally done by Mary Kay, and hair was professionally done by Grace & Glamour. There were also door prizes donated by the vendors as well as pop-up shops by Laura and Mary Kay.

Jacqui notes that Waterloo Heights' volunteers played a large part in making the event so successful.

“It took many volunteers to help run the event, and we are very grateful for their help,” she says. “It was such a fun event.”
