A Landmark Village resident's idea for an outing has sparked what may become an annual event at the Sarnia seniors living community.
Residents are always encouraged to pitch ideas for programs, events and outings during Landmark Village's monthly residents' council meetings. During one meeting in late 2024 a resident proposed a trip to Fort Rose Maple Company once spring arrived.
Located in Parkhill, about an hour's drive east of Sarnia, Fort Rose Maple Company is a farm specializing in producing pure maple syrup and maple-flavoured products. The property includes more than 11,000 maple syrup taps in seven bushes. There's also a “pancake house” on site for dining.
As the weather warmed and the snow melted with the coming of spring, team members began organizing an outing to Fort Rose so residents could partake in the annual pancake brunch the maple syrup farm hosts.
Residents and team members boarded the Landmark Village shuttle bus and travelled to Fort Rose Maple Company one Saturday in April for brunch.
Landmark Village activity manager Brent Hart says the weather was cool and wet that day, so residents weren't able to tour the farm. However, the rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits, and a great time was had by all, he says.
In fact, residents enjoyed the excursion so much Brent says he hopes the outing will become a yearly tradition.
“The residents had a great time, and I think Fort Rose Maple Company will be on our annual shuttle outings moving forward,” he says.
