Southgate Village resident Connie is described by one of the Kingsville, Ont. seniors living community's team members as having “the most infectious smile and biggest heart you will ever meet.”

Valerie Judas, the Village's fun co-ordinator, also notes that aside from her big smile and warm personality, Connie has become an enthusiastic hand-knitter who has been busy making sweaters and other items during the course of winter.

While Connie took a break recently, she came back “better than ever,” Valerie says, and started knitting more and attending more of the programming Southgate Village offers.

It was upon her return to activities that Connie learned to knit using a loom.

Valerie notes that, like Connie, she is a hand-knitter; however, Valerie says she has “a bit of trouble learning the basics of the loom.”

Meanwhile, Connie has mastered the loom, which is a circle of pegs that holds yarn in place while the knitter works. Once yarn is wrapped all the way around the loom, the knitter takes the previous row and pops it over the row they just wrapped.

With an array of sweaters already knitted, Connie has turned her attention to knitting matching hats using the loom, Valerie notes.

“Connie must have had a great teacher in another resident of ours, because she is going strong with hat making,” she says.

“Good job, Connie, keep up the good work.”
