Sitting down to share a holiday meal is a time-honoured tradition for many families, and the Westmount Gardens family is no exception.

On Dec. 19, team members from all departments enjoyed their annual holiday meal together with a large spread of food. As a show of gratitude for their hard work throughout the year, team members were served the meal by the London, Ont. long-term care community's managers.

The meal included turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, gravy, cranberry sauce and potato buns, as well as a variety of sweets that were served for dessert. There was also a vegetarian lasagna offered as a main course.

“It was a beautifully made meal, and everyone loved it with tons of compliments,” Adnan Resh, Westmount Gardens' life enrichment manager, tells S&R Today.

“The entire meal was made in-house with extra love from food services manager Cheryl Speers,” he added.

Adnan says it was “all hands on deck” for managers at the dinner, which also featured holiday-themed music and dancing.

On top of the delicious meal, all team members were treated to a stocking filled with several gifts, including a mug, mittens, hand warmers, hot chocolate, cookies and a Christmas card.

The day before the dinner, a workshop was organized for managers to get the stockings ready.

“That was a fun time,” Adnan says. “The season is about getting people together, joy, fun and laughter, and that's what we are all about. We have a great group here at Westmount Gardens, and it only gets stronger.”

Coincidentally, the day of the holiday meal was also “pyjama day,” so several staff members and residents were dressed in their PJs, which added another layer of fun, Adnan says, adding he hopes to have another similar event in the not-too-distant future.

“(It was an) amazing day, and I don't want to wait another year to do this again, so hopefully something similar can take place in the near future,” he says.
