Waterloo Heights hosted a Christmas market in December which helped residents get their holiday shopping done and also raised $459 for the Lisaard & Innisfree Hospice.

The market featured 15 vendors who were at the Waterloo, Ont. seniors living community selling unique items and Christmas gifts to residents and the public, and the event attracted lots of people, says Waterloo Heights activity director Jacqui Metzloff.

“We had many guests from outside our home attend the event, including neighbours, family and friends, members of the community, and more,” she tells S&R Today.

Residents held a bake sale and an ornament sale to raise money for the Lisaard & Innisfree Hospice, the organization Waterloo Heights residents elected as their fundraising beneficiary for 2024.

The bake sale raised $346 and the ornament sale brought in $113 for the organization, Jacqui notes.

“We were also lucky to get a donation of a large variety of homemade cookies by resident Connie Krische, and bits and bites by Audrey Barron,” she says, adding residents volunteered to take turns selling cookies during the event.

Resident Diane Slimmon ran the Christmas ornament fundraiser for the second straight year, after collecting ornaments for the previous 12 months, Jacqui says.

Some of the items sold by vendors during the event included Christmas-themed gifts and decorations, cheesecake, quilts, handmade candles, art, aprons, jewellery, purses, heat wraps, crocheted toys, and stuffed dolls and animals.

“It was a fun event and a great way to do our Christmas shopping,” Jacqui says.
