Twin Lakes Village residents recently enjoyed a fun and educational outing to a farm that's home to several unique animals.
Located about 80 kilometres southeast of the Sarnia seniors living community, Jersey Ranch Mini Moos offers engaging experiences with the many animals living there, including micro-mini Highland cows, goats, horses, chickens and cats.
Residents and team members took a trip here to get the full farm experience and had lots of fun, says Twin Lakes Village fun co-ordinator Gina McNally.
They especially enjoyed meeting with and learning about some of the more unique animals that live on the farm, such as micro-mini Highland cows and fainting goats.
Micro-mini Highland cows are known for their friendly, personable nature; their long, thick coats; and for making excellent pets.
Residents immediately took to two micro-mini Highland cows named Willow and Indy, Gina notes.
“Residents got to bush the cows and feed the cows as they got some facts about them,” she tells S&R Today.
Another interesting animal residents got to visit and learn about were miniature silky fainting goats.
This breed of goat was first developed in the 1990s from crossing Tennessee fainting goats with long-haired Nigerian dwarf goats.
These goats get their name from their tendency to faint when startled or excited, something the visitors from Twin Lakes Village kept top of mind.
“We made sure not to startle the goats too much so they wouldn't faint,” Gina says. “The goats were very interactive with the residents and curious about their walkers.”
Gina says residents enjoyed the outing so much there will be more visits to the farm in the future.
“We will definitely be going back to visit Willow and Indy and, of course, the goats, for future bus trips at Twin Lakes Village,” she says.
