It was a busy Halloween season at Twin Lakes Terrace with lots going on, but the big highlight of Halloween week was a costume party and contest that saw a group of team members dressed as characters from the 1960s sitcom The Addams Family win top honours.
For the second straight year, the Sarnia long-term care community hosted a home-wide Halloween costume contest, and the many creative costumes did not disappoint, says life enrichment manager Tara Klompstra, who describes Halloween week as “spooktacular.”
The staff from the Maplehurst floor who were involved in what Tara describes as the “most amazing rendition of Halloween's most lovable family” included team members An as Gomez, Casandra as Morticia, Collen as Pugsley, Hope as Wednesday, Gabe as Uncle Fester, Rick as Lurch and Lauren as Grandmama.
This was the second win for some team members, “and well deserved,” Tara says.
“The Maplehurst unit staff really took Halloween to the next level and set the bar for next year,” she tells S&R Today.
“The PSW station was completely transformed into a scene from The Addams family, complete with Cousin It and Thing. The effort, care and dedication to their theme didn't go unnoticed and let me know the staff at Twin Lakes Terrace are out-of-this-world awesome.”
Sharon Burgess, who dressed as a “zombie slayer,” was the contest's resident costume winner. Tara says Sharon “spooked” all her friends, family and young trick-or-treaters with her creative design.
Sharon thanks her granddaughter, Joryn, for helping with her costume, adding her day was “so fun and full of laughs.”
“I loved seeing my great-grandson, too,” she says.
Other events during Halloween week that engaged residents and team members included a Monster Mash dance party, making candy bags for trick-or-treaters, cookie decorating and pumpkin painting.
Given the success of this year's Halloween festivities, Tara says she's looking forward to next Halloween.
“We can't wait for next year – bring on Halloween 2025,” she says.
