Village on the Thames resident Louise Reid is seen here with her cake on her 101st birthday.

The Village on the Thames was the scene of a big celebration for a resident enjoying a special birthday on Oct. 22.

Louise Reid turned 101 and her fellow residents as well as team members at the Chatham-Kent seniors living community came out in full force to wish her well and help her celebrate her big day.

The centrepiece of Louise's special celebration was a large birthday cake her family brought that was shared amongst residents and team members.

Louise's favourite colour is pink, so the cake had lots of pink icing and pink decorative flowers.

Diamond Zelina, the fun co-ordinator at the Village on the Thames, says Louise is a much-loved resident and everyone was happy to help her celebrate her birthday.

“She is a very sweet lady and she is always kind and loves talking to everyone,” Diamond tells S&R Today. “She has seen and experienced so much in her 101 years of life, (and it was) an amazing day for her and everyone.”

Louise also has a creative side. Village on the Thames kicked off its annual Halloween door-decorating contest that week and Louise is one of the participants, Diamond says, adding her door has a fun design.

“She has cute little handmade bats on her door with giant googly eyes,” she says.
