Two departments at the S&R Group's head office joined forces to launch the Halloween season Oct. 24.
The Human Resources team and Seniors Living Division ignited Halloween spirit with a pumpkin-carving contest that proved to be both fun and a team-building exercise for everyone involved, says Mahyar Garmsiri, the S&R Group's HR talent acquisition specialist.
The idea was sparked at head office after team members learned the staff at the S&R Group's eight seniors living communities were already dressing up in Halloween costumes and doing Halloween-themed activities.
One Sarnia seniors living community, Landmark Village, has set up a haunted house for residents to tour, a project team members at the Village undertake every October.
When Human Resources and Seniors Living heard about this, they wanted to ride the Halloween wave and bring something fun to head office.
“We knew we needed to bring that energy here,” Mahyar tells S&R Today.
Team members from all head office departments participated in the event. At the end of the event, seven jack-o'-lanterns with creative designs were displayed and judged.
Heather McInnes, the S&R Group's corporate executive chef, was awarded first place for “best in carving” by the judges.
Mahyar says the event was a great way to encourage fun and creativity while celebrating the Halloween season.
“It was such a great opportunity to see our teammates from different departments just take a break from a busy day and do something fun,” he says.
