S&R job fair nets 40 interviews for prospective team members

People looking for new career opportunities with the S&R Group were lining up outside the St. Clair Corporate Centre in Sarnia before the doors even opened at a recent job fair the organization hosted.
The Aug. 21 event resulted in nearly 40 people being interviewed for a variety of positions in the organization's long-term care and seniors living communities.
The job fair attracted people looking for positions as nurses, personal support workers, cooks, dietary aides and environmental services workers, says Mahyar Garmsiri, the S&R Group's HR talent acquisition specialist, who was one of the job fair's organizers.
Team members from head office and local S&R homes were on hand to welcome attendees and provide them with information about working at S&R.
Team members also worked as screeners to find qualified candidates and to ensure no one had to wait long to be interviewed.
From the interview stations, hiring managers were able to assess for technical skills and find good fits for their team, Mahyar notes.
Conditional offers were made to candidates for several positions, he adds.
The latest job fair is one of a string of events the S&R Group has hosted this summer to acquire new talent. Mahyar says it was encouraging to see so many people interested in working for S&R, noting there were people showing up first thing in the morning.
Mahyar also staff members from S&R homes demonstrated outstanding teamwork during the event, adding some had met for the first time that day.
“I'm so proud of our team members (for) working so well with their colleagues from different homes,” he says.
