Lanark Heights hosts job fair to attract new talent
Team members interview almost 140 candidates for PSW and RPN positions

Team members from Lanark Heights and the S&R Group's head office organized a job fair recently to attract personal support workers (PSWs) and registered practical nurses (RPNs) to the Kitchener long-term care community.
The event, which took place at Lanark Heights, was created to help showcase life at Lanark Heights, introduce people to the culture at the home and S&R, and help address the need for more front-line workers in the greater health-care sector.
In fact, the event was so proactive that candidates were offered immediate job interviews, notes Mahyar Garmsiri, the S&R Group's HR talent acquisition specialist, who attended the fair.
“We offered to interview all qualified PSWs and RPNs on the spot and did almost 140 interviews that day,” he tells S&R Today, , adding that Lanark Heights managers who were not slated to do interviews jumped in and started interviewing candidates to ensure no one was waiting long.
Snacks and drinks were available for people as well and a Lanark Heights slideshow was shown to introduce potential team members to life at the home.
Mahyar says news of the job fair was spread by team members through word of mouth and their WhatsApp accounts, and attendees came from as far away as Toronto to deliver their resumes.
He adds that strong teamwork helped make the event possible.
“Just seeing how passionate everyone was for the opportunity to play a role in this job fair and make it a special day made me so proud to be supporting the Lanark Heights team,” Mahyar says.
“I think it speaks volumes about the culture in this home, so I'm really happy we are able to grow the team here.”
