Landmark Village was transformed into a carnival April 25 when the Sarnia seniors living community hosted one of its monthly “fun days,” which included games, refreshments and lots of clowns.
The idea for the event was conceived by fun co-ordinator Brent Hart, who says participation was “excellent” and the residents' reactions “priceless.”
The purpose of the event, which was dubbed Clowning Around Day Carnival Fun, was straightforward: encourage as many residents and team members as possible to dress up like clowns and have fun, Brent says.
Team members especially enjoyed dressing up for the residents' entertainment, he adds.
“Many staff went above and beyond to dress up like clowns for the day,” Brent tells S&R Today. “During lunch, staff walked through the dining room to show off their costumes, and the smiles were nice to see.”
In the afternoon, residents and team members gathered in Landmark Village's Great Hall to enjoy refreshments and play carnival-themed games.
In keeping with the spirit of the day, refreshments included carnival-themed items such as ice-cream floats, popcorn and, of course, the long-standing carnival favourite, candy floss.
Landmark even has a stand-up popcorn machine that was put to use for the event, Brent says, adding the aroma of freshly popped corn kernels wafted throughout the village all day.
“The day was a huge success and really showed how much laughter and fun can come from dressing up a bit goofy for the day,” Brent says.
The next fun day Brent is planning will be a casino day with games and evening entertainment.
“There is never a dull moment,” he says.
