Having a beautiful ambience is important at any senior living community, and at Twin Lakes Village a duck who has laid an egg in her nest in the yard has added to the homey environment.
About three years ago, the mother duck made her nest in the yard at the Sarnia senior living community. For the first time, a photo was snapped to show eight eggs resting in the nest waiting to hatch.
Twin Lakes Village fun co-ordinator Ruby Gallant says the duck almost always covers her nest when she goes foraging for food.
However, on a recent expedition, she left it uncovered. This prompted food services manager Phil Stell to get close enough to capture a photo of the eggs in the nest for the first time.
The photo has been amusing for residents and team members.
“It's a rarity that she is off the nest, so this was a big surprise for us,” Ruby tells S&R Today.
Ruby says everyone at Twin Lakes Village is happy the duck has chosen to make her home at their home.
“We are blessed that she feels safe here with us, and we certainly enjoy it when she comes back,” she says.
