Westmount Gardens honoured the women living and working at the London, Ont. long-term care community by paying tribute to International Women's Day on March 8.
In honour of the day, a social was held in the cafe and there was a “huge turnout” of residents and team members attending, says Westmount Gardens life enrichment manager Adnan Resh.
Some residents were joined by family members, including one residents who invited her mother, “and they had a blast,” he adds.
Life enrichment team members decorated all the tables to make the ambience extra special, Adnan notes.
“I would like to send out a huge thanks to all the ladies in my department, as everyone always goes well above and beyond,” Adnan tells S&R Today.
Adnan notes that celebrating this day is important in a long-term care community because the majority of residents and team members are women.
“And we sure are really grateful for all the amazing ladies,” he says.
During the event there was music from a variety of female artists playing as well as lots of socializing, Adnan says. There was also strawberry and vanilla ice cream served and several poems were read.
“There was just a lot of fun in the air,” Adnan says. “When I came back to my office, I could hear ladies walking by saying they just came back from a great social that was held for International Women's Day.”
International Women's Day is celebrated annually at Westmount Gardens.
The day traces its roots to March 19, 1911, when it was first celebrated in several European countries, including Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and Austria-Hungary.
According to the International Women’s Day website, the aim of International Women’s Day is to celebrate the “social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.”
