Heron Terrace residents recently enjoyed their first bus trip of summer with a 90-minute tour around the Windsor region, where they took in sites such as the city's waterfront, new buildings, parks and Riverside Drive Bridge.
Life enrichment manager Sheila Dela Pena-Romero says residents enjoyed the sightseeing, which not only opened their eyes to new things in Windsor but also brought back fond memories for those who were long-time residents.
“(It was) a great way to kick off the summer season,” Sheila tells S&R Today. “The residents were delighted and wore it on their faces – even through their masks.”
Even rain couldn't dampen residents' spirits, Sheila says. At one point, she notes, rain began pouring down unexpectedly, so residents started singing rain-related songs, such as Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head and Rain, Rain, Go Away.
This was followed by a guessing game they played where residents tried to remember songs about rain, Sheila adds.
While this was the first bus trip of summer, Sheila says residents can expect many more outings and events to help them enjoy the season.
“We had a blast, and the residents are looking forward to many more adventures,” she says, adding that the reminiscing continued after residents returned home.
“When they came back, they were talking about the memories from the past, when they used to walk and ride a bicycle along the waterfront and sidewalks. It was nice to see how much they enjoyed each others' company and building new friendships.”
