Rosewood Village residents spend memorable afternoon at a ranch

‘There is one resident who is still talking about it’

Rosewood Village residents recently visited a ranch in Strathroy, where they learned about horses, toured the site and relaxed on a sunny afternoon.

The Texas Longhorn Ranch offers guests a bed and breakfast, horseback riding and a campground. Rosewood Village fun co-ordinator Bev James and her family have a trailer at the campground.

In late August, Bev was organizing a resident outing to her trailer. She was planning to accompany a small group of residents to spend the day relaxing at the campground.

But when she contacted the ranch’s owner, Fred Cahill, about the outing, “Cowboy Fred,” as he is affectionately known, insisted Bev and the residents spend part of the day with the horses and at a gazebo, where residents were served pie and lemonade.

Bev says Cowboy Fred also took time to teach residents about the horses and how the ranch operates. He also showed them the ranch’s chuckwagon.

For an added touch of authenticity, residents all wore cowboy hats, Bev notes.

“It was really appreciated what Cowboy Fred did for us; he really went above and beyond,” Bev tells S&R Today.

On top of everything else, Bev says mother nature gave the residents a “beautiful day” to enjoy their time at the ranch.

“The residents loved it,” she says. “There is one resident who is still talking about it.”
