Landmark Village has a tradition of serving a top-notch meal for the Sarnia seniors living community’s residents every New Year’s Eve, and this past Dec. 31 was no exception, thanks to the efforts put forth by team members.
Dinner began at 4:30 p.m., with many residents coming down early to get a seat, says Landmark Village fun co-ordinator Brent Hart.
Due to restrictions in place to keep everyone safe during the global COVID-19 pandemic, residents sat two per table with transparent dividers between them.
The Landmark Village chefs went above and beyond to create a first-class meal for residents that began with a choice of two appetizers: shrimp and bacon-wrapped scallops or a mixed salad. For a main course, residents had the choice of roasted prime rib or chicken breast stuffed with cream cheese and bacon. Side dishes included Yorkshire pudding, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus and a stuffed tomato.
Landmark Village chefs also created the type of dessert menu one would expect in a five-star restaurant. The lineup this year included three dessert choices: cherry chocolate cheesecake, caramel apple cheesecake or pineapple upside-down cake.
Everything, from the starters straight through to dessert, was enjoyed by everyone, Brent says.
“The menu was amazing and enjoyed by all,” he tells S&R Today.
For some dinnertime fun, Brent provided a new year’s word puzzle that residents enjoyed completing. To add to the ambience, soft music was played throughout the meal. Following dinner, a resident gave a toast to bring in 2021.
“It was a bit different from our usual new year’s party that would include a live band and residents dancing, but everyone had a good time and really enjoyed the meal,” Brent says.
“It takes a lot of planning and work by the kitchen and dining staff to prepare and serve a dinner of this nature, and they all did a fantastic job.”
