The Lanark Heights team hosted Remembrance Day services throughout the Kitchener, Ont. long-term care community last week to honour all veterans, including some residents who have served in the Armed Forces.

“We invited our veterans down to the cafe area and facilitated a lovely Remembrance Day ceremony,” life enrichment manager Melissa Abdul tells S&R Today.

“Each neighbourhood had the same program and facilitated a Remembrance Day ceremony for all our residents.”

After the traditional moment of silence, team members handed out sugar cookies, made by chef Darlene, that were decorated as poppies, the flowers that symbolize remembrance, and served tea and coffee.

Residents wore poppies and posed for photos team members took.

Melissa says residents were happy to have had the opportunity to pay tribute to Canadian veterans.

“Our service in the cafe area provided an intimate program for our veterans on the neighbourhood and for our (other) residents and team members,” she says.
