A talented, young local musician named Ashna stopped by Heron Terrace recently to play her trumpet for small groups of residents in the Windsor long-term care community’s garden.

Heron Terrace administrator Amy Sworik says Ashna contacted the home prior to her visit and was eager to do something to help brighten residents’ day during the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.

“The idea was to provide some nice musical entertainment and to bring them some joy during this pandemic,” Ashna told the Heron Terrace team.

The life enrichment team and social worker Monica Coelho assisted residents outside and ensured social distancing and all other safety protocols were met.

Residents were happy to learn there would be live entertainment for them outside, Amy says.

“Many were delighted to hear that there was going to be live musical entertainment, as all entertainment has been on hold due to the pandemic,” she says.

“Not only were our residents happy, but our team members were excited for our residents to attend a musical event.”

Ashna played for residents in small groups and everyone enjoyed the day, Amy says, noting some got right into the spirit of the occasion by joining in.

“They clapped along and some even sang,” she says.
