Southgate Village hosted a celebratory luncheon Aug. 28 to toast members of the Kingsville, Ont. senior living community’s 90s Club who had turned 90 in the past year.
The 90s Club members were treated to a meal that included steak, shrimp, cake and champagne. Those members who had turned 90 in the past year were presented with a homemade quilt.
The event was organized by fun co-ordinator Susan Davis and food service manager Karen Siddall. While Susan has been organizing events for the 90s Club for several years, this was the first time club members have been treated to a meal of this magnitude, says Southgate Village executive director and director of care Becky Broughton.
There are currently 20 members of the 90s Club, and five of those members have turned 90 in the past year.
Southgate Village also has a plaque on one of its walls with the names of those residents who are in the 90s Club mounted on its surface.
Becky says the work Susan and Karen put into organizing the luncheon was appreciated by the 90s Club members, who enjoyed their meal and the atmosphere that was created.
“I think this is something we are going to do yearly now,” Becky says.
