Landmark Village celebrates 10 years as Sarnia’s ‘cruise ship on land’

Residents and team members toast ‘Landmark anniversary’ with Hawaiian-themed event

Residents and team members at Landmark Village celebrated the Sarnia senior living community’s 10th anniversary Aug. 23 with a Hawaiian-themed event that saw everyone dress up in flowered shirts and bright colours.

It was a fitting theme for Landmark Village, which aimed to provide a cruise-ship-like experience for its 135 residents when it opened its doors in 2009.

In fact, the Steeves & Rozema Group was so determined to bring a “cruise ship on land” atmosphere to residents that the company initially advertised for people with experience in the hospitality sector to serve in the senior living community’s leadership capacity.

The celebration included a pig roast lunch; music on the front patio, courtesy of the Borderlite Duo; and a celebratory cake.

The music paused at 3 p.m. for the cake-cutting ceremony and a few words from Landmark Village executive director Janice Horley and relationships and marketing director Shauntelle Sandrin.

Fun co-ordinator Brent Hart says the event, which celebrated Landmark Village as a great place for residents to live and a great place for team members to work, was marked by exceptionally good weather.

“We lucked out and had beautiful weather,” he tells S&R Today. “(The celebration) was not only attended by the residents but many family members came to enjoy the day, (and) staff brought their children in to enjoy the festivities.”

Brent adds that there was also a snow-cone machine on site that went over well with residents and guests.

“Everyone had fun enjoying a cold treat,” he says.

The event even served as an opportunity to celebrate two couples who were marking wedding anniversaries. S&R Today will be bringing you their stories in an upcoming article.
