Logan, pictured above, is turning two on May 18.

On May 18, Heron Terrace will be hosting a fundraising party at the Windsor long-term care community to celebrate the second birthday of a boy who underwent heart-transplant surgery this past year and whose family has received an outpour of support from the Heron Terrace team.

The party will celebrate Logan’s birthday; his homecoming, which was in March; and the final month of the Heron Heroes’ year-long fundraising initiative, which has helped provide support to Logan’s mother while her son received treatment in Toronto.

The Heron Heroes is a group of Heron Terrace team members that hosts fundraisers to support local causes.

One of the party’s organizers, personal support worker and Heron Hero Kim Deslippe, is encouraging other S&R long-term care and seniors living communities to host their own fundraising parties to celebrate Logan’s birthday.

“(We would like) to put out a call to see if all the S&R homes would like to do some kind of fundraiser; a barbecue or a raffle or something like that,” Kim says.

The Heron Heroes have received support from another member of the S&R family this past year. In December, Southgate Village in Kingsville raised $217 to support a bottle drive the Heroes created to help Logan’s family.

The Heron Heroes have hosted a myriad of fundraisers to support Logan and his mother since 2018. Aside from the bottle drive, there was a large-scale yard sale last August, a “save your change month” in September, a hoodie sale in October and a fundraising Christmas gala in December, among others.

The most recent major fundraiser the team hosted was Logan’s Diner, a three-day event in March which transformed the Heron Terrace community room into a classic diner with a 10-item menu people could order from, which raised more than $600. The last day of the fundraiser, March 9, also marked the day Logan came home to stay.

If your S&R community would like to host a fundraiser to celebrate Logan’s birthday and you would like more information, please contact Kim at Heron Terrace by calling 519-979-6730.
