Logan, pictured above, has been receiving lots of support from fundraisers the Heron Heroes have been hosting.

The most recent fundraiser hosted by the Heron Heroes in support of a one-year-old Windsor boy who recently received a heart transplant saw the Heron Terrace community room turned into a classic diner and raised more than $600 in the process.

The Heron Heroes, a group of staff members from Heron Terrace, have been rallying behind Logan and his family since last June. The Heron Heroes have been hosting a variety of fundraisers to help Logan’s mother, who had been staying at the Toronto Ronald McDonald House during her son’s treatment.

The “Logan’s Diner” event, held March 5-9, is the most recent fundraising event the team has hosted.

“It was a huge success,” Heron Hero and Heron Terrace personal support worker Kim Deslippe tells S&R Today. “Staff also really liked it because it was a chance for everyone to get together.”

The last day of the event, March 9, was particularly special because this was the day Logan came home, Kim notes. With the exception of going to Toronto for the occasional appointment, he’s home to stay, she adds.

During the fundraiser, the community room was set up like a classic diner complete with a 10-item menu that featured chili, hot turkey, loaded nachos, pasta and several different types of salad.

Residents, staff members, family members and visitors were all invited to sit down for a meal and support Logan. Some of Logan’s family members also turned up, Kim notes.

Kim, who, along with housekeeping department staff member and fellow Heron Hero Lisa Harris, received Steeves & Rozema’s 2018 Community Service Award for fundraising initiatives at Heron Terrace, says the team will be hosting another event on May 18 in honour of Logan’s second birthday, to celebrate his homecoming and to mark the end of the year-long fundraiser.
