Steeves & Rozema is looking for people working in the organization who are showing initiative and committing time and effort to making a positive impact on the lives of others.

If this describes a co-worker or a group of people you work with at an S&R community, Steeves & Rozema is encouraging you to nominate them for a Quest for Success award in the Community Service category.

The Community Service Award recognizes staff members at Steeves & Rozema’s long-term care and seniors living communities – collectively or as individuals – who have demonstrated commitment to their communities and helping others.

In 2018, Heron Terrace personal support worker Kim Deslippe and housekeeping department staff member Lisa Harris received the Community Service Award for their work as a two-person fundraising team at the Windsor long-term care community.

Kim and Lisa have organized fundraisers for staff members who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. They held a fundraiser for Lisa’s grandson who had a brain tumour. Kim and Lisa also participate in the Windsor Brain Tumour Walk every year.

Kim and Lisa even used their vacation time on one occasion to organize a weeklong fundraiser with 50-50 draws and raffles to help with funeral costs for a local family who lost their baby unexpectedly.

“They believe that when someone is in a bad situation they shouldn’t have to worry about money,” life enrichment manager Lori George said in nominating the duo. “They would rather do fundraisers than ask people for money because it adds a bit of fun and helps people out at the same time.”

In 2017, Lanark Village received the Community Service Award for raising more than $9,000 for local charities the previous year.

Held annually in Sarnia, the Quest for Success event honours outstanding S&R team members and volunteers throughout the organization based on four areas: Above and Beyond, Community Service, Quality Improvement and Volunteer Recognition. There are also service awards handed out every year.

The deadline for nominations is March 15, and Steeves & Rozema’s Quest for Success awards presentation will be held in Sarnia on April 25. Nomination forms are available from managers at Steeves & Rozema long-term care and seniors living communities.
