It was a picture-perfect Christmas at Afton Park Place

Sixty-six Afton Park Place residents had a special present to open Christmas Day: a framed photograph of themselves.

Before the holidays, the Sarnia long-term care community’s life enrichment manager, Stacy Petrie, came up with the idea to have residents’ photos taken professionally.

She connected with Lambton College, asking for a recommendation for a photographer. A graduate from the college’s digital photography program came to the Sarnia long-term care community and, over the course of three days, worked with Stacy to ask residents if they wanted their photos taken.

When “picture day” arrived, residents got dressed up for their photos. Family members were invited as well and could have their pictures taken with their loved ones.

The other departments helped by dressing residents, doing their hair and getting them ready to have their photos taken.

“There was really good collaboration from all of the departments,” Stacy tells S&R Today.

On Christmas Day, the 66 residents received wrapped presents. When they opened them, they found their framed photograph inside.

Families were delighted with the results, Stacy says. Families were also offered additional copies of the photos.

“A lot of families came back and wanted prints,” Stacy notes.

Residents who didn’t want their picture taken received different presents to open Christmas morning.

Aside from the joy the photos brought residents and their families, Stacy says she’s glad to have been able to work with Lambton College to find the photographer.

“It’s a good partnership with us,” she says.
