It’s amazing how easy it is to find a “sweet” idea for resident programming when you poke around on the Internet, says Lanark Village fun co-ordinator Kyla Pfister.

It was while visiting Activity Connection, a website providing information about creating meaningful programming for seniors, that Kyla learned April 6 was National Caramel Popcorn Day.

From that visit to Activity Connection, Kyla was inspired to host Make Your Own Caramel Popcorn Day at the Kitchener seniors living community.

“We made an ‘almost Cracker Jack’ from scratch,” she tells S&R Today.

Team members popped the corn in the home’s popcorn maker, then mixed the popcorn with homemade creamy caramel and peanuts. The caramel-coated popcorn was then baked for an hour.

The caramel popcorn was the perfect snack to serve residents during the featured musical entertainment that was brought in for the afternoon, Kyla says.
