Harley the dog making Rosewood Village even more of a home for people

‘He’s really Rosewood’s little dog because he is here so much,’ says his owner, Bev James

Since he was six months old, Harley, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel owned by Rosewood Village fun co-ordinator Bev James, has been making visits to the Sarnia seniors living community.

What began as casual visits to Rosewood Village when Harley was a pup has morphed into visits as often as twice a week. The reason Bev brings Harley to Rosewood Village so often is simple, she says.

“The residents love him,” Bev says, adding he “soaks up attention” every time he comes for a visit.

“Residents see him in the hall and say ‘good morning, Harley.’ They all know him by name, and they all stop for a snuggle. I just love bringing him, and all I have to say to him in the morning is ‘do you want to go to work?’ and he plants himself by the door until we leave.”

Harley has a perfect disposition, too, Bev says. He’s a very gentle dog and he loves the residents as much as they love him, she says.

Bev has started bringing Harley to Rosewood Village more often because the residents want to see him, she adds.

“When he comes in, their faces all light up,” Bev says.

Many residents have also owned dogs at some point in their lives, so it’s natural that they gravitate to Harley and have grown so fond of him, Bev says.

And having a dog at Rosewood Village creates a strong sense of home and community, she adds.

“He’s really Rosewood’s little dog because he is here so much,” she says.
